The DJI Phantom 4 is clearly the most superior and smartest drone currently on the market and is highly recommended. It is not cheap but is clearly extremely good value for money. It has many new features that make it easy for a beginner to fly but also satisfy the needs of more advanced flyers.
Obstacle avoidance. The multiple front-facing sensors will detect if there is anything in the immediate flight path and will either fly around the obstacle or slow down and eventually stop.
Fly with touch. TapFly lets you fly by tapping the screen of the controlling device to fly in a particular direction. You can keep tapping to further change direction.
Visual Tracking. ActiveTrack allows you to select a target and lock onto it. The drone will automatically track and follow the target as it moves.
Extended Flight Time. The maximum flight time is 28 minutes. The maximum control range is 3.1 miles (5kms).
Faster. The drone is capable of flying at up to 44mph (72kmh). Pretty impressive.
The DJI Phantom 4 is all ready to fly straight out of the box. There is a free DJI Go app which you can download on your iPhone or iPad. This app gives you access to the new flight features mentioned above. It also provides a live video feed and full camera control.
The DJI Phantom 4 basically now has three speeds. When in Obstacle Avoidance mode the max speed is about 22 mph. In normal flight mode the max is about 35 mph. With the new Sports mode it gets up to an amazing 45 mph (72 kmh). In this new mode it can also ascend at the rate of 6 metres (20 feet) per second and descend at the rate of 4 metres (13 feet) per second.
The camera is capable of capturing 4K video at 30 frames per second and slow motion 1080p at 120 frames per second. You are also able to take 12 megapixel still shot photos. You can see what the camera sees in 720p HD from up to 3 miles (5kms) away. There is also improved active camera stability with a 3-axis, u-frame stabilization system which cancels out unwanted camera movements during flight.
The battery will last for 28 minutes however this will vary on how hard you fly, especially in sports mode. The average is usually around 25 minutes. The battery can be fully charged within an hour. You can purchase an additional battery however they are quite expensive. The remote can be charged at the same time as the battery and it will usually last for about three full flights.
